Oakland History is Black History!

Celebrate Black History Month by taking a tour of the Black history born right here in our beloved city of Oakland. At Fairyland, we’re honoring the ingenuity, contributions, triumphs and culture of Oakland’s African-American community over the last 100+ years with an interactive retrospective, arts & crafts, AND stellar authors, artists, and performers all month long!

Interactive Retrospective

Grab your map and take a curated walking tour through a visual display highlighting important people, places, and movements with Oakland roots and global impact. Become familiar with compelling figures and facts you never knew you never knew! Get your kiddos in the conversation at the Community Reflection Wall. From the Black Panther Party to the Black Panther films, and so much more in between, this interactive educational experience is for the entire family!
